Terraria Progression Guide: The Order to Tackle Bosses and Biomes
Terraria progression guide — the proper order to fight bosses, explore biomes, and upgrade gear through all game phases from pre-Hardmode to post-Moon Lord.
Terraria has over 40 bosses, dozens of biomes, and 1600+ items across a progression that absolutely isn't intuitive. The game gives you a big sandbox and expects you to figure out the order. Players who don't know what to do next often waste hours trying to fight bosses they're underleveled for, or progress haphazardly and miss key content.
Here's the proper progression order — boss-by-boss, biome-by-biome, through the full game as of 2026 (including the final 1.4.5 content update).

This is the end of main progression. Congratulations, you've beaten Terraria.
Post-Moon Lord Content
Terraria doesn't have traditional post-game bosses but it has:
Luminite bars: Craft end-game accessories and tools Celestial weapons: Best-in-slot weapons per class Pyramids/Underground biomes: Post-game exploration Expert Mode / Master Mode: Higher difficulty replays
Hardmode Phase 4: Update 1.4.5 Content
The final content update added several new challenges and items. Check wiki for current state of 1.4.5 content as it's been expanded.
The alternate progression paths
You can sometimes fight bosses out of order if you're skilled:
Duke Fishron early: A skilled player can kill Duke with Mechanical boss gear. Drops carry through post-Plantera.
Empress of Light at night: Normal difficulty. Skill check but doable.
Empress of Light in daytime: One-shot KO mode. Essentially bullet hell. Most difficult fight in the game.
Class priorities by progression
Melee: Strongest early, great mid-game options. Use Terra Blade → Solar Eruption → Meowmere.
Ranged: Solid all-around. Megashark → Shroomite arrows → S.D.M.G.
Magic: Glass cannon with excellent AoE. Spectre armor is meta-defining.
Summoner: Passive damage plus whip weapons. Requires investment but scales hugely late-game.
Mixed (recommended for first playthrough): Carry gear for multiple classes, adapt to boss weaknesses.
What we make at Choost
Granny's Rampage is a bullet heaven, not a sandbox — completely different design. But Terraria is a masterclass in long-term content delivery we respect enormously. For more Terraria content, the terraria tips post has general advice, and the games like Terraria post covers the genre.
The shortest version
Pre-Hardmode order: King Slime → Eye of Cthulhu → Eater/Brain → Queen Bee → Skeletron → Wall of Flesh.
Hardmode order: Mechanical bosses → Plantera → Golem → Duke Fishron (optional) → Empress of Light (optional) → Lunatic Cultist → Celestial Pillars → Moon Lord.
Gear progression: Copper → Iron → Gold → Demonite/Crimtane → Molten → Cobalt/Palladium → Mythril/Orichalcum → Adamantite/Titanium → Hallowed → Chlorophyte/Turtle/Shroomite → Spectre/Beetle → Solar/Vortex/Nebula/Stardust.
Prepare arenas and potions for every boss. Don't rush the progression — each boss is balanced around having the gear one tier behind. Terraria rewards preparation and respects your time investment.
