Hades 2 Boons Tier List: Every God Ranked for Melinoë
Hades 2 boons tier list — every Olympian god ranked by their boon quality, with the best picks for attack, special, cast, and dash slots.
Hades II has a different pantheon from the original, with returning gods offering reworked boons and new gods bringing entirely fresh mechanics. Melinoë's combat is more cast-focused and Omega-attack-dependent than Zagreus's was, which changes which boons shine. Here's every god ranked for the current early access state.
The tier list
S-tier: Apollo, Zeus, Hephaestus
A-tier: Aphrodite, Demeter, Poseidon
B-tier: Hestia, Hecate, Artemis
C-tier: Hermes (always useful but not build-defining)
S-tier breakdown
Apollo is the best overall god in Hades 2. Daze status effect prevents enemies from attacking for a window after being hit. His boons stack daze duration and add damage bonuses against dazed enemies. Nova Strike (attack boon) and Nova Flourish (special boon) are both excellent, and his legendary extends daze duration dramatically. Take Apollo whenever offered.
Zeus returns with lightning chain damage that excels at clearing rooms. His boons on attack create chain lightning that bounces between enemies. On cast, lightning bolts rain down. Static Discharge (Jolted status) punishes enemies who attack you. Zeus remains the best room-clearing god.
Hephaestus is new to Hades 2 and brings blast damage — massive delayed explosions that trigger after hits. Volcanic Strike adds blast chance to attacks. The damage numbers on blast procs are enormous, especially against bosses with large health pools. His boons reward patience and heavy-hitting playstyles.
A-tier breakdown
Aphrodite returns with Weak status (reduces enemy damage output). Her boons are defensive in nature but Weak is universally useful. Passion Dash is an excellent dash boon. Her duo boons with other gods tend to be strong because Weak synergizes with everything.
Demeter brings Freeze/Chill effects that slow enemies. Excellent crowd control. Ice Strike and Arctic Flourish are solid on any weapon. Her boons become S-tier on weapons that hit frequently because Chill stacks faster.
Poseidon has knockback effects that deal bonus damage when enemies hit walls. Situationally devastating — in small rooms with walls, Poseidon boons outperform everything. In open arenas, he drops to B-tier. Tidal Dash remains one of the best dash boons.
B-tier breakdown
Hestia is new and provides scorch/burn damage over time. Good sustained damage but doesn't spike as hard as Apollo or Zeus. Her boons reward patient playstyles where you apply burn and kite.
Hecate provides hex effects that transform your cast. Powerful but niche — her boons are build-defining rather than universally good. When a build centers on Hecate, she's S-tier. Without synergy, she's middling.
Artemis returns with critical hit chance. Always welcome but less impactful than in Hades 1 because Melinoë's combat has more AOE focus. Pressure Points (global crit chance) remains a strong pickup whenever offered.
Universal picks (always take these)
Regardless of build, certain boons are always worth taking:
Any Hermes boon. Move speed, attack speed, dash charges — Hermes makes every build better. Not build-defining but universally excellent.
Privileged Status equivalent. Whatever the Hades 2 version of "bonus damage to enemies with 2+ status effects" is, take it. Structure every build to apply at least two status effects.
Dash boons from Poseidon or Aphrodite. Tidal Dash (knockback) and Passion Dash (Weak application) are both excellent regardless of your main build.
Boon slot priorities
Attack slot: Apollo (Daze) > Zeus (Chain Lightning) > Hephaestus (Blast)
Special slot: Depends heavily on weapon. Demeter and Aphrodite are safe picks.
Cast slot: Zeus or Hecate for damage. Hephaestus for blast procs.
Dash slot: Poseidon (Tidal Dash) or Aphrodite (Passion Dash).
Duo boons worth hunting
Duo boons require having boons from both contributing gods. The strongest duos:
Apollo + Aphrodite: Daze + Weak combination. Enemies deal less damage AND can't attack. Defensive powerhouse.
Zeus + Poseidon: Chain lightning on knockback. Room-clearing machine in tight spaces.
Hephaestus + Demeter: Blast damage boosted by Freeze effects. Massive single-target damage.
What we make at Choost
Granny's Rampage has its own boon-like upgrade system — passive upgrades that compound into absurd power builds. Same roguelike DNA, different combat angle.

The shortest version
Always take: Apollo, Zeus, any Hermes. Build around: Hephaestus for boss damage, Zeus for room clearing, Demeter for crowd control. Dash: Poseidon or Aphrodite. Apply 2+ status effects to everything for bonus damage. Apollo is the best overall god in Hades 2 — prioritize his keepsake early in runs.
